Best Ways to Keep Warm this Winter
(Read time: 4 minutes, 25 seconds)
Winter is coming in thick and fast and with the rise of the cost of living, sometimes heating your home through your central heating may not be the most viable option. We've spoken to some people on how to keep warm during the winter months without putting on the heating or to combine with a small amount of heating through the day.
Candles do more than you think. It may sound silly or even trivial but you can find half-used candles on gumtree really cheap and they do heat your home or room. If you go down this route, please be careful with paraffin candles as they can be dangerous after a long time of exposure and never leave a candle unattended. Whenever you leave a room you should blow it out, even if it's for a short moment. You should place the candles in areas of your room/home where they cannot catch to anything else.
Thick Socks, Hats, Gloves and Scarves. Wear them all! Who made the rule that you can't wear them indoors? No one. If you need to use your hands during the day, fingerless gloves also work. You can also try tucking your trousers into your socks as well, this keeps even more heat in!
Layers are key. I know, I know. You've probably heard it before but it really is true. Try wearing a tighter undershirt or even invest in a pair of longjohns/tights to go under your trousers/bottom layer. It's never a bad thing to wear a hoodie and a jacket and if you can fit on more, go for it!
Keep blankets everywhere. Genuinely. You never know when you're going to need to make a nest on your sofa or make a blanket cloak from something you've seen out of Harry Potter. If you're strygglign to find cheap blankets. IKEA do some really cheap ones but you could also check charity shops for something that's a bit thicker!
Pick our your clothes the night before. This may sound odd but put your outfit for the following day next to your bed. One of the worst things about getting up in the morning can be getting out of your nice, warm pajamas and getting into cold day clothes. Wake up a little earlier in the day and put your day clothes on in bed. Stay in bed whilst your day clothes get nice and toasty like your pajamas were and then get goignw ith your day!
Hot showers aren't always the best option. In fact, they can leave you feeling colder than when you first went in. See what works best for your body, but try and stick out for longer relief with the options above than finding the short, quick releif in your shower.
