Top Free Fitness Apps - Running

Below you'll find a variety of free apps/websites that will help you get those running shoes on! Lots of these apps start small and will gradually help you run further so don't worry. If you've been running for years or have never been on a run before, these apps are for you! If you've given some of these a go, let us know how you found them in the comments below!
 

Couch to 5K

A running programme for those who do not usually run, or for those that want to run a little further. The challenge can be completed in as little as 9 weeks, or longer if you want to adjust your pace. The virtual trainer will motivate you, while enabling you to play your music, track your runs and also connect with others.

 

Parkrun

Completed your goal of being able to run a 5k? Motivate yourself more, make new friends and become part of a supportive network through local Saturday morning park runs. You don’t need to be quick. You don’t even need to run! Everyone is welcome to join in whether that is walking, jogging or running. Most cities have a parkrun fairly local to you - check out the website to find out where your nearest one is! Can't find one that's near to you? You could start a Why Not? Active 10

No need for the Apple Watch or the Fitbit, Active 10 is a free app that tracks your steps, helps you set goals, shows your achievements and gives you tips to boost your activity. Give yourself a steps challenge and participate in free exercise to keep yourself fit!
 

Couch to Fitness

Keep fit from the comfort of your own home for free. Couch to Fitness is a free and flexible at home online exercise plan for beginners. This includes 3 video sessions a week, with rest days in between over 9 weeks. As well as their standard programme they have a range of others such as family fit, bitesize, couch to fitness 2, with more coming soon.

 

Zombies, Run!

Want to add some excitement to your run? This is a running app that makes you one of the few survivors of a zombie epidemic. As you run you will listen to the story which will have distance missions and zombie chases which will require you to speed up.
