(Read time: 1 minute, 30 seconds)
In Scotland we are lucky enough to have free school meals between primary 1 and 3, after that you need to apply through your council to continue to qualify. This can make a massive difference when it comes to budgeting and making life a little bit easier.
For your child to qualify, you just need to be receiving one of the following:
- Universal Credit (where your monthly earned income is not more than £660)
- Income Support
- Income-based Job Seeker’s Allowance
- Income-based Employment and Support Allowance
- Child Tax Credit, but not Working Tax Credit, and your income is less than £17,005
- Both Child Tax Credit and Working Tax Credit and have an income of up to £7,920
To apply visit, find your council via the drop down menu at https://www.mygov.scot/school-meals
Remember if you need any help applying, be sure to ask your Connector or a member of the Why Not? Team!
