Distraction Techniques: BLAST
(Read timer: 2 minutes, 9 seconds)
Distraction techniques are a great way to take your mind off things and focus your attention elsewhere. It doesn’t matter how or what you are feeling or where you are, these can be useful for all emotions and thoughts that we maybe don’t want.
BEAT Charity have created a suggested list of ways to distract ourselves from difficult thoughts, giving a bit of space and time to get our minds back to a more neutral or positive place.
BLAST stands for Bored, Lonely, Angry, Stressed or Tired, some of these techniques might help provide a distraction and ease some or all of the difficult emotions that you might be feeling and turn them into something positive. And let's be honest, most of us feel at least one of these each day, and often more than once or more than one at any time!
Not all of these distraction techniques will work for you, some tips suggested for each feeling might even work for a different feeling or a technique might work for you one time and not the other. Some techniques might take a lot of effort and others may take your mind elsewhere quickly. The best way to distract yourself will vary from person to person so have a look to see which techniques you’ll find most helpful.
